The Receipts

A timeline of the Solana Foundation calling its own community "digital slop" while quietly collecting their fees. Every quote, every link, every contradiction. Read it. Share it. Don't forget it.

62% of Solana dApp revenue from memecoins (H1 2025)
$1.6B network revenue, H1 2025 — mostly from "slop"
times the foundation has insulted the people paying them
JUL 27, 2025 Anatoly Yakovenko Co-Founder, Solana · @aeyakovenko
"Memecoins and NFTs are digital slop. Like a mobile game loot box. People spend $150B a year on mobile gaming."

Toly went public on X in a debate with Base creator Jesse Pollak, comparing the entire memecoin and NFT culture to gambling on loot boxes. He posted this in a quarter when memecoin trading accounted for 62% of Solana's dApp revenue. Then he logged off and let the validators keep cashing the checks.

MAR 2024 Anatoly Yakovenko Co-Founder, Solana · @aeyakovenko
"Memecoins are bad, but if they donate to a public good then they have paid a penance for the bad thing. I'd rather see people that hodl a memecoin change their behavior and go do something good, like walk dogs at a dog shelter..."

Toly's position, in his own words: holding a memecoin is morally questionable. Redeemable only through charity. The actual prescription: walk dogs at a shelter to atone for being a degen. You can't write satire that lands harder than the real quote.

2025 Lily Liu President, Solana Foundation
Memecoins are not a defining feature of the ecosystem — they are a "production test" for Solana's network performance.

The president of the Solana Foundation publicly reframed memecoins as stress-testing infrastructure rather than a real product. Every rug, every PvP run, every late-night degen frenzy — recast as a free QA run for the validators. The chain's largest revenue source, demoted to a test net by the people running the foundation.

Refocus on finance. The era of speculative narratives is over.

As the broader crypto market slid in February, the foundation's president publicly pushed Solana to pivot away from speculation toward "real finance". Translation: the people who built the chain's revenue line through speculation are now the obstacle to be moved past. The community that bought through the bear isn't the future — institutions are.

MAR 2026 Lily Liu President, Solana Foundation
"Blockchain gaming is not coming back."

Three words to write off an entire category of Solana ecosystem builders. From the top. With no warning. The foundation didn't just shrug at memecoins — they were already moving on from whatever the community tried next. The pattern is the point: every grassroots vertical gets called dead from the podium before it gets a fair shot.

AUG 4, 2024 Vydamo (@vydamo_) Open letter from the Solana community to Anatoly Yakovenko
"I write to you on behalf of every Solana community that is experiencing deep pain right now. I write to you on behalf of those who lost everything on memecoins. We trusted in you, we..."

A public open letter from a Solana community member to Toly, documenting what the community had been carrying while the foundation publicly distanced itself. Worth reading in full. The community has been writing this story for years — the foundation just refused to read it.

The pattern is the point.

One quote is an off-day. Two is a coincidence. Six over twenty-four months, from the two people running the foundation, in the same direction — that's a position. The position is: the community that built this chain is an embarrassment we'd like to grow out of.

Fine. We heard you. We're growing out of you instead.
